    Scope of Position: Develop and coordinate the execution of the Equestrian Program for overnight camps while ensuring excellence in operations, facilities and personnel.

    Reports to: Activities Coordinator, WinShape Camps for Girls

    Responsibilities

    • Train, supervise and coordinate equestrian staff personnel (Hopis)
      • Screen new Hopi candidates each year to evaluate equestrian experience
      • Plan and execute a training weekend prior to pre-camp with Lead Hopi and Hopi Team Lead
      • Work closely with the Lead Hopi and Hopi Team Lead from each camp to ensure excellence in the Equestrian Program and build unity among the instructors
      • Develop and lead an instructional clinic for all Hopi staff during pre-camp and Staff Training
      • Design and encourage teambuilding activities for Hopis during Staff Training and throughout the summer
      • Identify Hopi staff members’ individual strengths and areas of growth to encourage staff to take compatible roles, aid in the development of individual skills, and enhance team effectiveness
      • Give feedback related to the Equestrian Program on revisions for staff and
        camper handbook
      • Assist in the Performance Review process for Hopis as needed
    • Establish and enforce all standard operating procedures related to the execution of the Equestrian Program (includes policies, goals and curriculum)
      • Offer a variety of fun and challenging opportunities for both beginners and advanced riders
      • Develop plans for rainy days
      • Manage the implementation of the programs during the summer
      • Establish procedures for supervision and define guidelines to ensure the safety of all camper who participate in the Equestrian Program
    • Supervise and coordinate all supplies and equipment necessary for the Equestrian Program to operate with excellence
      • Identify leaser of horses and work closely with them to ensure all dates, transportation, and paperwork is in order prior to the summer
      • Evaluate, select and maintain the care of all camp horses (includes necessary worming, feedings, shoeing, etc.)
      • Review current inventory and order all additional supplies and equipment
      • Maintain a product control system of equestrian equipment and supplies, to include maintaining a clean and safe environment for both the horses and campers
      • Research and recommend alternative costs for vendors, supplies, etc.
      • Submit all capital request items for WinShape Camps for Boys and WinShape Camps for Girls prior to the end of camp
    • Participate in continued education through conferences, clinics, and training sessions, especially in areas that would promote growth as a leader within the Equestrian Program 

     

    Qualifications

     

    • Demonstrates clear understanding of and experience in horsemanship and has management or supervisory experience at a horseback riding facility
    • Strong leadership qualities
    • A Christian in agreement with the camp’s Statement of Faith and practicing Jesus-like lifestyle
    • Supports the vision and philosophy of the camp
    • Is at least 21 years of age
    • Holds a current certification in CPR and First Aid
    • Holds a Level 2 certification in Western and English from a nationally recognized organization
    • In August-early May, works an average of 20 hours per week. This can be done from anywhere, but travel to Atlanta or Mount Berry is expected from time to time for meetings, appointments or visits as necessary.
    • In May, works onsite at Mount Berry various amount of hours for Hopi clinic, precamp  and Staff Training
    • In June-July, works onsite at Mount Berry Mondays-Fridays from 9am-5pm

    FLSA Status: Regular Part-Time, Non-exempt
